Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has reiterated that disruptive elements within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), whom he described as “vagabonds”, were expelled in November 2025 and no longer wield influence over the party.

Speaking during the inauguration of the newly built PDP secretariat in Ibadan on Tuesday, Makinde drew a clear line between the party’s current leadership and the faction that had caused internal turbulence over the years.

“In Yoruba land, we say that if a house is peaceful, it is because the vagabond has grown up,” Makinde said.

“The vagabonds in PDP had their time, but they have been expelled. They no longer have control.”

He traced the origin of the faction’s activities to the period following the PDP’s loss of power at the federal level in 2015, when a leadership vacuum allowed certain elements to dominate the party.

Makinde, who admitted to having been previously aligned with the faction, emphasized his shift away from the group. “I came into government in 2019 and, towards 2023, I was yoked with them. But now, I have repented – I am born again,” he said.

The governor also dismissed claims and rumours propagated by unnamed actors, urging party members to remain focused on the truth. “They can continue peddling lies for 20 years, but when the truth comes out, that ends the lies,” he stated.

On ongoing legal disputes surrounding the PDP, Makinde expressed confidence in the judiciary, describing it as “the last hope of the common man.” He assured members that the courts would eventually resolve all outstanding issues.

“The various court cases involving the PDP will come together at some point. The judiciary will give justice to the party,” Makinde said, affirming his trust in the rule of law.
