Court of Appeal ruling leaves Mark-led leadership intact – ADC
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has clarified that the recent Court of Appeal ruling in its ongoing leadership dispute does not affect the current party leadership, urging members and the public to disregard misleading interpretations.
In a statement signed by National Publicity Secretary Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the party explained that the appellate court dismissed the appeal filed by Senator David Mark on procedural grounds and did not issue any order affecting the positions of Mark as National Chairman and Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola as National Secretary.
The ADC stressed that the substantive leadership dispute remains pending before the Federal High Court. The party reassured members that its national leadership remains fully intact and united.
The Court of Appeal noted that Mark’s appeal was based on issues not reflected in the trial court’s ruling and lacked the required leave of court. The appeal was dismissed, and costs of N2 million were awarded against Mark. The appellate court also ordered an accelerated hearing of the substantive suit and instructed all parties to maintain the status quo pending its determination.
The substantive suit, filed by former Deputy National Chairman Nafiu Bala Gombe, challenges the emergence of the Mark-led leadership and seeks to restrain INEC from recognising the current leaders.
