The Acting Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has arrived at the Presidential Villa in Abuja for his decoration by President Bola Tinubu.

Disu, who was appointed on Tuesday, previously served as the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department, FCID, Alagbon.

He arrived at the Villa alongside members of his family for the ceremony, where he will be decorated to the rank of Inspector-General of Police.

In line with the provisions of the Police Act 2020, President Tinubu is expected to convene a meeting of the Nigeria Police Council to formally consider Disu’s appointment as substantive Inspector-General of Police.

After the council’s approval, his name will be forwarded to the Senate for confirmation.

Recall that the former IGP, Kayode Egbetokun, reportedly tendered letter of resignation citing pressing family considerations.

President Tinubu received Mr Egbetokun’s resignation earlier and expressed his profound appreciation for his decades of distinguished service to the Nigeria Police Force and the nation.

The President acknowledged his dedication, professionalism, and steadfast commitment to strengthening internal security architecture during his tenure.

The President is confident that AIG Disu’s experience, operational depth, and demonstrated leadership capacity will provide steady and focused direction for the Nigeria Police Force during this critical period.

In compliance with the provisions of the Police Act 2020, President Tinubu will convene a meeting of the Nigeria Police Council shortly to formally consider the appointment of AIG Disu as substantive Inspector-General of Police, after which his name will be transmitted to the Senate for confirmation.
