ADC wasn’t biased towards Peter Obi, Kwankwaso; loyalists were given positions — Tambuwal
Former Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has dismissed suggestions that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) is facing an internal crisis following the exit of prominent opposition figures, including Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso.
Tambuwal argued that the departure of the two politicians, alongside some federal lawmakers, was based on personal political choices rather than any structural or leadership disagreement within the party.
The recent defections had sparked concerns over possible divisions within the ADC-led coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections, with some analysts suggesting the party’s presidential arrangement may already be leaning towards former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
However, speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday, Tambuwal rejected the claims.
“I do not believe that it was out of any crack. I believe that they wanted to go to another platform for them to possibly test their popularity with the Nigerian people at the general elections,” he said.
He also dismissed allegations that the ADC structure was skewed in favour of any aspirant, insisting that no major stakeholder, including Obi or Kwankwaso, publicly complained about bias within the party.
“I didn’t hear Governor Peter Obi saying so, I didn’t hear Distinguished Rabiu Kwankwaso saying so,” he stated.
Tambuwal added that the leadership of the ADC, under former Senate President David Mark, would ensure fairness and equal opportunity for all aspirants.
According to him, the party remains structured to accommodate all stakeholders without exclusion.
“Stakeholder involvement is very clear in ADC,” he said, adding that key party positions were distributed in a manner that reflects inclusiveness.
He further noted that Peter Obi had been involved in the party’s internal structure, particularly in shaping its organisational framework.
“Peter Obi was given the opportunity to bring the National Organising Secretary of the party. He brought the current National Organising Secretary,” Tambuwal added.
The former governor insisted that the ADC remains stable, united, and focused on presenting a credible alternative ahead of the 2027 elections.
