Alonso blames Militão injury as Real Madrid fall 2-0 to Celta Vigo
Real Madrid manager, Xabi Alonso, has offered a candid assessment of his team’s performance following their disappointing 2-0 defeat to Celta Vigo in a keenly contested LaLiga fixture on Sunday.
The Los Blancos were undone by a brilliant second-half brace from Williot Swedberg, whose clinical finishing silenced the Santiago Bernabéu and handed the visitors all three points.
The evening further deteriorated for Madrid after Fran García and Álvaro Carreras were shown red cards, leaving the Spanish giants with an uphill battle.
Speaking during his post-match briefing, Alonso admitted that his side fell short in several key areas, acknowledging that the players struggled to impose themselves on the game. He also pointed to the injury sustained by Éder Militão as a major disruption to the team’s tactical setup.
“We’d planned the match after the Bilbao game to play at a good pace and put pressure on a good side,” he explained.
“We were lacking in some areas, and the injury disrupted our plans. We struggled to react; almost the best reaction was when we were down to ten men.”
With the defeat now behind them, Real Madrid will quickly shift their attention to a crucial UEFA Champions League showdown against Manchester City on Wednesday, a match that could define their season.
