APC hands Tinubu Certificate of Return, flag following 10.9 Million-vote victory
Bola Ahmed Tinubu has formally received the All Progressives Congress (APC) Certificate of Return and party flag, officially confirming his position as the party’s presidential candidate for the 2027–2031 election cycle.
The presentation took place on Sunday at the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja, where APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, handed over the certificate to the president before a crowd of party leaders, governors, lawmakers, and supporters.
Yilwatda said the certificate represented the collective mandate of party members nationwide, adding that Tinubu’s nomination reflected what he described as overwhelming internal support within the ruling party. He noted that more than 10 million APC members were represented in the process, describing the outcome as a symbol of unity and shared political direction.
Vice President Kashim Shettima and First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu joined the president on stage during the ceremony, which also featured top APC stakeholders, including members of the National Working Committee, National Executive Committee, and National Assembly.
The event followed Tinubu’s emergence as APC presidential candidate after polling 10.99 million votes in a nationwide direct primary conducted across 8,809 wards in all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory. He defeated his sole challenger, Stanley Osifo, who polled 16,504 votes.
Party officials say the scale of victory further consolidates Tinubu’s position as the APC flagbearer heading into the 2027 general elections.
