Backlash as Soludo offers ₦1 Million reward to Anambra Communities with highest voter turnout
Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), has faced criticism following his announcement of a ₦1 million reward for the community that records the highest voter turnout in the forthcoming November 8 governorship election.
Soludo explained that the initiative aims to tackle voter apathy and encourage greater civic participation.
According to him, the ₦1 million prize will go to the community with the highest percentage of registered voters who actually cast their votes.
However, the announcement has sparked mixed reactions across social media and political circles, with critics accusing the governor of attempting to influence the electoral process.
Some described the offer as an indirect form of voter inducement, while others questioned the fairness and transparency of determining the “highest turnout.”
Despite the backlash, Soludo maintained that his intention was to strengthen democracy and promote public involvement in governance.
