Enugu Residents demand probe into missing Babies at UNTH

The University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH), Enugu, is facing heavy criticism following reports that three newborn babies were allegedly handed over to unknown persons after their mother reportedly died in the facility.

Sources revealed that the woman, whose identity remains undisclosed, passed away shortly after childbirth.

However, her family alleged that when they returned to the hospital to collect the babies, they were informed that the infants had already been released to other individuals.

The family has since accused the hospital of gross negligence and possible child trafficking, demanding a thorough investigation into the incident.

Reacting to the development, human rights activists in Enugu have called on the state government and security agencies to intervene, describing the situation as “deeply disturbing and unacceptable.”

As of the time of this report, the hospital management has not released an official statement, though sources within the facility hinted that an internal probe might have been launched to determine what transpired and who authorised the release of the children.

The case has ignited outrage on social media, with many Nigerians calling for justice and stricter regulations on hospital child custody and postnatal procedures.
