Bandit attack in Plateau kills three soldiers, seven vigilantes
Tragic clashes in Wanka community, Keram district, Kanam LGA, Plateau State, have left three soldiers and seven vigilantes dead.
Residents told Daily Trust that the incident occurred around 5:30 pm on Friday, when bandits invaded the village, firing sporadically. Several bandits were also reportedly killed during the engagement.
Gambo Musa, a resident, said two army captains were among the victims. He explained that the security personnel stormed the community in the morning, engaged the bandits, and killed several, but the bandits regrouped hours later and attacked, resulting in casualties on both sides.
Ibrahim Ubale described the attack as “terrible,” noting the bandits were well-equipped and able to confront security forces and vigilantes.
Operation Enduring Peace spokesperson, Captain Polycap Oteh, could not be reached for comment.
The area, bordering Wase, has repeatedly experienced bandit attacks. Last month, the Nigerian Army deployed 300 soldiers to counter such threats, including kidnappings and other criminal activities.
