BREAKING: ADC faction dissolves Mark-led NWC, names Dumebi Kachikwu as sole 2027 presidential candidate

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) faction led by its 2023 presidential candidate, Dumebi Kachikwu, has named him as its sole presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The Electoral Committee Chairman and Benue State party chairman, Elias Adikwu, announced Kachikwu’s adoption, a decision ratified by delegates at the ADC National Convention held on Sunday in Abuja.

The newly elected National Chairman of the party, Alhaji Abdulkadir Mohammed Bashir, presented Kachikwu with the party’s flag, formally sealing his mandate to lead the party into the forthcoming elections.

The convention also produced a new National Working Committee (NWC), alongside Kachikwu’s emergence as flagbearer.

The new NWC members include Board of Trustees Chairman Kingsley Oggah (NC), Deputy National Chairman Johnny Tovie Derek (SS), National Secretary Kennedy O. Odion, National Treasurer Dr. Joe Aroh (SS), National Financial Secretary Chief Amirigoye (SW), and National Publicity Secretary whose name was listed as pending from the SW zone.

Others are National Legal Adviser Dr. Chris Ugwu (SE), National Organising Secretary Elias Adikwu (NC), and National Chief Whip Patrick Ambut (NW).

Recall that a separate Senator David Mark-led ADC convention had earlier held in Abuja on April 14, 2026, amid internal disputes, litigation and venue controversies, where over 1,000 delegates reportedly voted to amend the party’s constitution and confirm Mark as substantive National Chairman.

That faction also expelled Dumebi Kachikwu, Rep. Leke Abejide and other members over alleged anti-party activities, deepening the leadership crisis within the party.

The Mark-led convention had drawn prominent political figures including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, as part of broader coalition efforts aimed at unseating the ruling All Progressives Congress in 2027.
