BREAKING: Tinubu appoints Bianca Ojukwu as Foreign Affairs Minister
President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu as Nigeria’s new Minister of Foreign Affairs, following the resignation of Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, who reportedly stepped down ahead of political realignments linked to the 2027 elections.
The President also nominated Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, subject to Senate confirmation.
The appointments were announced in a statement issued on Wednesday by Presidential Spokesperson Bayo Onanuga.
According to the statement, the changes are part of efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s diplomatic engagement and align foreign policy with the administration’s economic priorities.
“These adjustments are part of ongoing efforts to reposition Nigeria’s foreign policy architecture for greater efficiency, strategic engagement, and stronger global partnerships,” the statement read.
Ambassador Odumegwu-Ojukwu, a seasoned diplomat and former Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, is expected to lead Nigeria’s external relations at a time when the government is prioritising economic diplomacy, regional stability, and international cooperation.
The presidency highlighted her extensive experience in international affairs and long-standing involvement in Nigeria’s diplomatic engagements.
“Ambassador Odumegwu-Ojukwu brings decades of diplomatic experience and a deep understanding of Nigeria’s engagement with the global community,” the statement added.
Ambassador Enikanolaiye, a career diplomat, previously served as Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs and International Relations. He has also held postings in several international missions, including Addis Ababa, London, Ottawa, Belgrade, and New Delhi.
His nomination, the statement noted, is aimed at ensuring continuity and strengthening Nigeria’s foreign service delivery.
President Tinubu congratulated both appointees and urged them to prioritise national interest, promote economic diplomacy, and improve the welfare of Nigerians abroad.
