BREAKING: Tinubu nominates Joseph Tegbe as Minister of Power
President Bola Tinubu has nominated Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe as Nigeria’s new Minister of Power, with his appointment now subject to Senate confirmation in line with constitutional requirements.
The nomination was confirmed on Thursday, April 30, 2026, in a statement issued by presidential media aide, Bayo Onanuga, who said the President has formally transmitted Tegbe’s name to the Senate for screening and approval.
The move follows the resignation of the immediate past Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, who stepped down to pursue elective political office.
According to the statement, Tegbe, an indigene of Oyo State, is a seasoned fiscal and economic reform expert with over 35 years of experience across both the public and private sectors.
The Presidency expressed confidence that, if confirmed, the minister-designate would bring his extensive technical and administrative experience to drive reforms and improve performance in the nation’s power sector.
President Tinubu also reiterated his administration’s commitment to strengthening critical infrastructure sectors, particularly electricity, as part of broader efforts to stimulate economic growth and improve service delivery to Nigerians.
