Christian Killings: We are ready for action against Nigeria – U.S. Defense Secretary tells Trump
United States Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has said the Department of War is preparing for possible military action in Nigeria following reports of renewed attacks on Christians across the country.
Hegseth made this known on Saturday in a post on X while responding to former U.S. President Donald Trump’s comments threatening intervention over alleged persecution of Christians in Nigeria.
“Yes sir. The killing of innocent Christians in Nigeria, and anywhere, must end immediately.”
“The Department of War is preparing for action. Either the Nigerian Government protects Christians, or we will kill the Islamic terrorists who are committing these horrible atrocities,” Hegseth wrote.
Trump had on Friday designated Nigeria as a “country of particular concern,” citing what he described as persistent violence against Christians and the government’s failure to protect religious minorities.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian government has denied claims of religious persecution, maintaining that it remains committed to protecting the rights and safety of all citizens regardless of faith.
