Zainab Sadiq, a journalist associated with African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has been released from the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS).

Sowore announced her release in a post shared on his verified X account late on Friday.

He said Zainab regained her freedom following sustained pressure and interventions from Nigerians both within the country and abroad.

The DSS had earlier confirmed that Zainab was in its custody after reports emerged that she had been arrested while working with Sowore.

“Ms. Zainab Sadiq is finally free from the grip of repression!

“To everyone who raised their voice, made calls, demanded justice, and stood firmly against repression: THANK YOU!

“When people of conscience unite and stand against injustice, repression can be defeated. Welcome back, Zainab,” Sowore wrote.
