Nigeria needs deep security reforms, not just new Service Chiefs – Bukarti
Security analyst Bulama Bukarti has cautioned that simply changing Nigeria’s service chiefs without implementing deep institutional reforms will not resolve the country’s persistent insecurity challenges.
Speaking during a television interview monitored by Very Nigerian, Bukarti explained that Nigeria’s security woes demand more than leadership reshuffling, stressing the urgent need for strategic reforms in intelligence gathering, inter-agency coordination, and the welfare of security personnel.
He pointed out that previous changes in military leadership had achieved little because the fundamental issues within the security system were left untouched.
According to him, real progress can only be made if reforms focus on accountability, proper training, advanced technology, and enhanced cooperation among the military, police, and intelligence agencies.
Bukarti urged the federal government to adopt long-term measures rather than politically motivated appointments, emphasizing that sustainable reforms are the only way to build a more effective and motivated security framework.
