Wike-led PDP faction fixes March 28–29 for National Convention in Abuja
The decision was announced after the party’s 105th NEC meeting held on Monday night.
The Abdulrahman Mohammed-led National Caretaker Committee (NCC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has fixed March 28 and March 29, 2026, for the party’s national convention in Abuja.
The decision was contained in a communiqué issued after the 105th meeting of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC), held on Monday night in Abuja.
Reading the communiqué, the PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Mr Haruna Mohammed, said the meeting took place at the official residence of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
According to the communiqué, which was jointly signed by Haruna Mohammed and the National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, the NEC also approved the timetable for congresses at various levels of the party.
The party scheduled ward and local government congresses for February, while state congresses are expected to hold in March, ahead of the national convention.
The NEC directed the NCC, working alongside the National Organising Secretary and other relevant party organs, to issue detailed guidelines, notices and modalities for the smooth conduct of the congresses nationwide.
It stressed that all activities must strictly comply with the PDP Constitution, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) regulations, and subsisting judicial pronouncements.
The NEC also unanimously reconfirmed, ratified and reaffirmed all resolutions reached at the party’s 104th emergency NEC meeting held on December 7, 2025, declaring that all actions taken pursuant to those resolutions remain valid and binding.
The party further welcomed the judgment of the Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan, which upheld the legality of the PDP’s current leadership structure and directed INEC to recognise the duly constituted National Caretaker Committee.
In line with the ruling, the NEC resolved that all party organs, members and stakeholders must continue to act in obedience to existing court judgments, urging INEC and other relevant institutions to fully comply with the decision in the interest of democracy and constitutional order.
The NEC reaffirmed the legitimacy and authority of the Mohammed-led NCC, with Senator Anyanwu as Secretary, stressing that the committee remains the only lawful national administrative organ of the PDP, empowered to function as the National Working Committee (NWC) pending the national convention.
It also approved the extension of the tenure of the National Caretaker Working Committee and other caretaker committees at the state and zonal levels until the conduct of the national convention and congresses.
The NEC mandated the NCC to immediately activate Convention Sub-Committees and commence full logistical, administrative and consultative preparations to ensure a transparent, inclusive and credible convention.
The party concluded by urging PDP members, supporters and stakeholders across the country and in the diaspora to remain steadfast, law-abiding and committed to the party’s ideals.
