Fubara camp suffers fresh setback as APC disqualifies four loyalist Reps ahead of primaries
The All Progressives Congress has disqualified four loyalists of Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, from participating in the House of Representatives primaries scheduled for Saturday, May 16, 2026.
The development was contained in the final list of aspirants released by the party on Friday.
Among those disqualified are serving members of the House of Representatives, Awaji-Inombek Abiante and Boma Goodhead.
Abiante is regarded as one of the prominent political allies of Governor Fubara and had reportedly purchased a governorship nomination form in support of the governor’s political structure.
The other aspirants not cleared by the party are retired Air Commodore John Opera and Hon. Anderson Igbiki.
Meanwhile, 21 aspirants were cleared to contest the primaries, including the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule.
Amaewhule, who is contesting for the Obio/Akpor Federal Constituency seat, is seeking to replace the Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Kingsley Chinda.
The Rivers State APC Publicity Secretary, Chibike Ikenga, confirmed the development in a statement issued in Port Harcourt on Friday.
The statement, titled “Final List of Aspirants for the House of Representatives Primary Election for Saturday, 16th May, 2026,” said the list was approved and released by the national leadership of the party.
Ikenga urged all aspirants to comply with the final screening outcome ahead of the primaries.
“You are by this notice informed of the release of the final list of aspirants for the House of Representatives primary election of our great party, the APC, scheduled for 16th May, 2026, as released by the national leadership of the party,” the statement read.
He added that the information should be taken seriously in view of the scheduled election and advised aspirants to take note of those cleared and those not cleared by the party.
