JUST-IN: NDC announces 2027 primary timetable, pegs presidential form at N60m, governorship at N30m
Ahead of the 2027 general elections, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has fixed the cost of its presidential Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms at N60 million as it released its full timetable for party primaries and sale of forms.
According to a statement jointly signed on Tuesday by the party’s National Chairman, Senator Moses Cleopas Zuwoghe, and National Secretary, Barrister Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu, the sale of Expression of Interest Forms will begin on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, and close on Monday, May 18, 2026.
Under the arrangement, presidential aspirants will pay N20 million for the Expression of Interest Form and N40 million for the Nomination Form, bringing the total to N60 million.
Governorship aspirants will pay N10 million for Expression of Interest and N20 million for Nomination Forms, totaling N30 million.
For legislative positions, the party fixed Senatorial forms at N3 million and N5 million respectively, while House of Representatives aspirants will pay N2 million and N4 million.
State House of Assembly aspirants will pay N1 million for Expression of Interest and N1.5 million for Nomination Forms.
The party stated that screening and interviews will hold between May 19 and May 21, after which successful aspirants will proceed to purchase Nomination Forms.
Sales of Nomination Forms will run from May 21 to May 23, while submission closes on May 25.
Appeals arising from the screening exercise will be handled on May 25 and 26, while primaries for various offices are scheduled for May 27 and 28.
The presidential primary is fixed for May 29, 2026, in Abuja.
The NDC added that governorship primaries will be conducted at the local government level, while National Assembly and presidential screening will take place at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja.
Aspirants are also required to sign undertakings in line with the party’s code of conduct.
The party further introduced concessions for female aspirants and persons with disabilities, stating that women will pay 50 per cent of the fees, while persons living with disabilities will enjoy a 75 per cent waiver across all categories.
It also announced the adoption of an “open secret ballot” system for its primaries, saying it is aimed at strengthening transparency and credibility in the selection process.
