Gunmen have reportedly killed a security operative along the Kwi-Beco road in Plateau State while he was travelling to his duty post.

Sources said the attack occurred at about 7pm on Thursday around Kwi, between Riyom and Barkin Ladi Local Government Areas of the state.

The security operative was reportedly riding a motorcycle to his duty post in the Chit area of Heipang when the assailants attacked and killed him.

Sources familiar with the incident disclosed that the gunmen fled with the motorcycle after the attack.

The spokesman of the Berom Youth Moulders-Association (BYM), Rwang Tengwong, confirmed the incident and described it as disturbing.

Tengwong lamented that the killing of a security operative raised serious concerns about the safety of civilians in the affected communities.

He said it was particularly troubling that security personnel deployed to protect residents were themselves vulnerable to attacks.

The BYM spokesman condemned the killing and called for urgent measures to address the security challenges confronting communities in the area.

Efforts to reach security operatives for official confirmation of the incident were unsuccessful as of press time.
