‘I Am Not for Sale’ — Kwankwaso speaks after Gov Yusuf’s defection from NNPP

Kwankwaso urged supporters to begin early mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections.

A fresh chapter in Kano’s unfolding political realignment opened on Saturday as Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, issued a stern message widely interpreted as a response to the defection of Governor Abba Yusuf and other political allies.

Political tension in the state has heightened following the governor’s resignation from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), alongside several local government chairmen, members of the House of Representatives, and political aides reportedly gravitating towards the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking to supporters at his residence in Kano shortly after the development, Kwankwaso, who is also the National Leader of the NNPP, said his political journey has always been anchored on principles and the emancipation of ordinary Nigerians.

“I am not for sale. My political convictions are what keep me grounded. If I were in politics for personal gain, I would have taken the easy route, and you would be looking for me elsewhere, not here,” he declared.

Kwankwaso stressed that the strength of the Kwankwasiyya Movement lies in shared ideals rather than material inducements.

“Our shared vision is what keeps this movement alive. If I were motivated by greed, I would have taken the money and walked away, and you would not be here today showing your support,” he said.

The former Kano governor urged supporters to begin early mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections, cautioning against complacency in the face of recent political shifts.

“We need people like you who have sacrificed and stood by the truth. You must not relent, because one day we will achieve our objectives,” he told the gathering.

Referencing the evolving political landscape in Kano, Kwankwaso warned that forces were working to undermine years of political organisation in the state.

“Going by what is happening in Kano today, we must begin preparations immediately. There are people determined to destroy what we have built over time,” he said.

Reaffirming his stance, Kwankwaso vowed not to compromise his principles, insisting that his political mission remained unchanged.

“My mission is to always fight for the ordinary people. I will not compromise with those who exploit the masses,” he added.
