BREAKING: ICPC operatives raid El-Rufai’s residence in Abuja

Officials of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) have raided the Abuja residence of former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai.

The development followed his arrest after he was granted bail by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Reports indicate that El-Rufai honoured an invitation by the EFCC on Monday before being picked up by ICPC officials on Wednesday.

In a statement issued Wednesday, ICPC’s Head of Media and Public Communications, Mr. J. Okor Odey, confirmed that the former governor was in the commission’s custody.

“The Commission wishes to state that Malam Nasiru El-Rufai, the former Governor of Kaduna State, is in our custody as at the close of work today, Wednesday, the 18th day of February, 2026. He is in the custody of the Commission in connection with ongoing investigations,” the statement read.

While the ICPC did not provide specific details about the investigation, it said further updates would be given in line with its mandate and procedures.

On Thursday night, El-Rufai’s spokesman, Muyiwa Adekeye, disclosed via social media that the former governor’s Aso Drive residence was searched by ICPC officials.

Adekeye quoted El-Rufai’s lawyer, Ubong Akpan, as condemning the action, describing it as unlawful and a violation of legal procedures and fundamental rights.

A social media user, Imran U. Wakili (PULLO), also confirmed the search but noted that details regarding the warrant status and outcome of the operation remained unclear as of the time of filing this report. Authorities had yet to issue an official statement specifically addressing the search.

The development comes after the Kaduna State House of Assembly recommended a probe of El-Rufai over alleged fraud amounting to ₦432 billion, allegations the former governor has denied.
