I’m running for president in 2027 — Sowore
Human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has formally declared his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election on the platform of the African Action Congress (AAC).
Sowore made the declaration on Friday during an interview on Politics Today, a programme aired by [Channels Television](https://www.channelstv.com?utm_source=chatgpt.com).
Responding to a question on whether he would emerge as the party’s sole presidential candidate, Sowore said the decision would ultimately rest with the party.
“Let the party decide,” he stated.
The activist, however, confirmed his intention to join the presidential race in 2027.
“I plan to contest the 2027 presidency. We have not finally submitted the list of online registered members. And that’s what the court judgment said,” he said.
Sowore also referenced the recent Federal High Court judgment that nullified parts of the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) guidelines ahead of the 2027 elections, noting that political parties now have room to continue updating their membership records.
“So, if you have submitted now, the court says you can reopen your portal and start again. We never stopped anyway,” he added.
The AAC chieftain further highlighted the party’s early adoption of digital membership registration, saying it began online registration as far back as 2018.
“Our party started online registration in 2018 when no party was doing it. In 2022, they asked everybody to submit their register. We were the only party that submitted a complete party register to INEC,” Sowore said.
His declaration adds to the growing list of politicians already positioning themselves for the 2027 presidential contest as political activities gather momentum across the country.
