INEC moves to mend PDP rift as factions meet in Abuja
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has called the two opposing factions of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to a troubleshooting meeting at its headquarters in Abuja.
The meeting, which is currently taking place, is bringing together the faction led by Tanimu Turaki and the group backed by former Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike, under the leadership of Abdulrahman Mohammed.
Sources at the venue said the move is part of INEC’s effort to address the lingering leadership crisis within the opposition party and prevent further internal disputes.
Members of Turaki’s National Working Committee (NWC), some secretariat staff of the party, and former Niger State governor, Babangida Aliyu, were among those who accompanied him to the meeting.
Mohammed, on his part, was accompanied by members of his national caretaker committee including the secretary, Senator Sam Anyanwu.
