INEC resumes second phase of nationwide continuous voter registration
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has resumed the second phase of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise across the country.
The electoral umpire announced that the exercise recommenced on Monday, following the conclusion of the first phase, which ended on December 10, 2025.
INEC had earlier launched the online pre-registration portal on August 18, 2025, before extending the process to physical registration centres nationwide on August 25, 2025.
According to the commission, a total of 9,891,801 Nigerians initiated the registration process online during the first phase of the CVR. However, only 2,572,054 registrations were fully completed as of November 28, 2025.
INEC disclosed that of the completed registrations, 1,503,832 were finalised online, while 1,068,222 were concluded through physical registration centres.
The commission explained that the temporary suspension of the exercise was necessary to allow for statutory procedures required under the law, including the public display of the voters’ register.
“In line with Section 19 of the Electoral Act 2022, the display of the register of voters for claims and objections was conducted from December 15 to 21, 2025, at local government area offices where the CVR exercise took place,” INEC stated.
The commission urged eligible Nigerians who are yet to register to take advantage of the ongoing exercise to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs). It also encouraged registered voters to use the opportunity to transfer polling units or update their personal details where necessary.
INEC further appealed to citizens who participated in the earlier phase to verify their registration records, correct any errors, and report the names of ineligible or deceased persons found on the voters’ register.
However, the commission clarified that CVR activities remain suspended in Anambra State and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) due to ongoing electoral processes in those areas. It added that fresh dates for the resumption of voter registration in the affected locations would be announced in due course.
