John Friday bags honorary Doctorate Degree in Journalism and Media from UK varsity

Following his outstanding contributions, the prestigious SouthWest CommonWealth EduVersity, United Kingdom, UK, has conferred on Mr Ebriku John Friday with Honorary Doctorate Degree in Journalism and Media.

The Honorary Awards Committee, SouthWest CommonWealth Eduversity, UK, in a letter dated 11th August, 2026, addressed to Friday said, “The Senate and Honorary Council Committee, chaired by the Provost of Southwest Commonwealth University, UK, pleased to inform you that you have been selected to receive an Honorary Doctorate Degree in Journalism and Media.

“This distinction is a testament to your outstanding contributions and exemplary leadership in society. Your extraordinary skills and expertise, thoroughly validated through our rigorous assessment, reflect a deep commitment and passion for your work. These attributes set you apart as one of the most exceptional awardees of the decade.

“The vision of Southwest Commonwealth University, UK, is to inspire individuals, ideas, and actions that contribute to a better world. This vision is consistently reflected in those who receive our esteemed honorary degrees, further enhancing the institution’s prestige.

“The Governing Council Members of Southwest Commonwealth University, UK, extend their commendations to you for being awarded this honorary degree in recognition of your remarkable achievements in the field of Journalism and Media.

“We appreciate your contributions to society and are honored to recognize your achievements.”

In his response , Dr Ebriku John Friday expressed deep appreciation for the honour and recognition given him by the management of SouthWest CommonWealth EduVersity, UK.

Friday said the conferment on him with a Honorary Doctorate degree in Journalism and Media is overwhelming and great motivation to do more for humanity.

He said: “This recognition and honour is really overwhelming. I really don’t know a prestigious university as SouthWest CommonWealth EduVersity, United Kingdom, UK, is nothing what my humble self was doing in Nigeria and other parts of the globe.

“I have high respect and regard for SouthWest CommonWealth EduVersity, United Kingdom, UK, really you are a citadel of building quality human resources.

“Your role in shaping and moulding lives of young Nigerians with scholarships is amazing, because most Nigerians you have selected and built their lives in your university have their dream come through. I immensely express my heartfelt gratitude and appreciation for your Interventions.

“Once again thank you for the honour done me, and it is not taken for granted but will spur me to do more for humanity.”

Meanwhile, Dr Ebriku John Friday (JP) is a quintessential gentleman, astute personality with rare qualities, a philanthropist par excellence, who have dedicated his life to ensure the ordinary man is well catered for and given a sense of belonging by creating equal opportunities for them to be carried along.

He is a straightforward personality who has stood with the oppress, and also a man who has ensured the poor also have access to quality education as he has successfully facilitated scholarships for the indigent over the years.

Dr Ebriku John Friday is a workaholic and a goal-getter whose aims behind every dream he has have been fruitful as he believes in the possibility of every of his pursuit and struggle for the betterment of the society, which motivates him to do the unthinkable in a positive way that many benefit from.

He studied at the prestigious University of Abuja in Nigeria’s capital city of Abuja, where he bagged a BSc in Economics.

He is a practicing journalist, a mediapreneur, blogger and social media influencer.He carved a niche for himself in the LEADERSHIP Newspaper, where he famous in the capacities of News page Design editor, Deputy Manager, Design Director, Online Editor, Assistant General Manager and General Manager of the Digital Assets respectively.

He has also previously worked as a journalist at different times with the Nigerian NewsWorld Magazine, The Essence Magazine and the Weekly Star Newspapers.

As a multi-task individual with high intellectual capacity and content, Ebriku is the publisher of TheLeaderng.com (The Leader Nigeria). He also manages as editor of two major online newspapers, Jabbama.ng and DailyPatriot.ng.

He served as the Special Assistant to Cross River State immediate past Governor, His Excellency, Prof Sir Ben Ayade on Print Media. He currently serves as Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Media Data Analytics to Cross River State Governor Bassey Edet Otu.

He is currently serving as Ex-Officio 1 of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) FCT Council and editor of the NUJFCT.ng news platform.
