Kano PDP primary: Abacha’s son loses governorship ticket to Dalhatu
Muhammad Dalhatu has emerged as the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kano State after defeating Mohammed Abacha in the party’s primary election.
Announcing the results on Monday, Umar Hadejia said the exercise was conducted peacefully and in line with the party’s constitution and electoral guidelines.
He stated that the primary election, organised to select the PDP flagbearer for the forthcoming governorship election in Kano State, was transparent, credible and hitch-free.
According to the results announced, Abacha polled 749 votes, while Dalhatu secured 2,233 votes to emerge winner of the contest.
“Having scored the highest number of valid votes cast, Alhaji Muhammad Bello Dalhatu is hereby declared the winner of the PDP governorship primary election and consequently returned as the party’s candidate for Kano State,” Hadejia said.
He added that the committee commended all aspirants, delegates, party officials, security agencies, and stakeholders for their maturity, cooperation, and commitment throughout the exercise.
The committee also urged party members to unite and work collectively to ensure victory for the PDP in the forthcoming general elections in Kano State.
Abacha had previously contested for the party’s ticket in 2023 but lost to Sadiq Aminu Wali following a legal battle between parallel factions of the party at the time.
He was also the governorship candidate of the Advanced Peoples Democratic Alliance in the 2019 governorship election in Kano State.
