NDC suffers defections as Bayelsa Assembly candidate, Vice Chairman other leaders join APC

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has suffered a fresh setback in Bayelsa State following the defection of several key members to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The defectors, who announced their decision over the weekend, said they were deceived and unfairly treated by the NDC leadership.

Leading the group was the winner of the NDC House of Assembly primary for Sagbama Constituency II, Felix Wilson, who was received alongside other defectors by the Bayelsa State Deputy Governor, Dr. Peter Akpe.

Wilson said his decision to leave the NDC followed what he described as irreconcilable challenges within the party after his name was allegedly removed and replaced with that of Michael Magbisa, whom he claimed to have defeated in the party’s primary election.

He declared his loyalty to the APC, describing it as a party committed to progress.

> “I am a candidate for Sagbama Constituency Two under NDC. I want people of my constituency in particular to know that NDC is a good party, but I have returned to my former party and family. Now I am in APC, which is a party of progress, and I am in the progressive party,” he said.

Wilson added that he joined the APC with all his loyal supporters and expressed appreciation for the warm reception accorded to them by the ruling party.

He pledged to work for the growth of the APC and contribute to its electoral success in the state.

Also speaking, the former NDC Vice Chairman in Ogbia Local Government Area, Saheed Umar, announced his resignation from the party, saying he chose to align with the APC because it remains the ruling party.

“As a progressive youth, I chose to align with the ruling party and embrace the winning team. I am here to serve in APC,” he said.

Receiving the defectors, Bayelsa Deputy Governor, Dr. Peter Akpe, welcomed them into the APC and urged them to work for the unity and expansion of the party while supporting the development agenda of the state government.

Other members who defected include Victor Egba, NDC Ogbia Constituency I aspirant, Gilbert Alawei, Agidi George, Azibola Oru, Solomon Etor, Fineman Eseimokumo and Munteuma Clifford.
