Notorious minister, APC agents plotting protest to destabilise our party – ADC
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of plotting to sponsor a protest in Abuja aimed at discrediting its leadership amid shifting political dynamics ahead of the 2027 elections.
In a statement issued on Wednesday via X and signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the party alleged that the planned protest is part of a broader strategy to destabilise the ADC following recent defections and growing opposition momentum.
Titled “APC’s Desperate Plan Uncovered,” the statement claimed that the alleged move followed an unsuccessful attempt to pressure the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) into taking what it described as “illegal action” against the party.
According to the ADC, the situation escalated after the reported defection of Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso to the party, which it described as a “milestone movement.”
“After meeting a brick wall with INEC, they have now changed tactics, but the objectives remain the same,” the statement read.
The party further alleged that a protest scheduled for Thursday, April 2, in Abuja is being orchestrated with the backing of a senior government official, described as a “notorious minister.”
It claimed the protest would feature a “paid crowd” posing as aggrieved party members calling for the removal of former Senate President David Mark from the ADC leadership.
“The plan is simple: a paid crowd will take to the streets demanding ‘David Mark Must Go’, in a bid to manufacture public pressure on INEC,” the party stated.
The ADC described the alleged development as an attempt by the APC to hijack its leadership structure, warning that such actions reflect rising anxiety within the ruling party over the opposition’s growing traction.
“They are not just afraid of our momentum. They are afraid of what happens when Nigerians begin to believe that change is possible,” the statement added.
The party, however, maintained that it would remain law-abiding while resisting any form of unlawful interference. It also called on Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene.
“If they are not acting on his orders, President Bola Tinubu should rein in his enforcers before it is too late,” the statement concluded.
