Ogun Politics: Abiodun’s anointed candidate Yayi picks APC guber nomination form
The lawmaker representing Ogun West Senatorial District, Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, has formally signalled his intention to contest the 2027 Ogun State governorship election after obtaining the nomination form of the All Progressives Congress.
The nomination and expression of interest forms, valued at ₦50 million, were collected on his behalf in Abuja, marking his official entry into the race for the state’s top political office.
The forms were presented by the APC National Organising Secretary, Suleiman Argungu, following the commencement of the party’s sales process for aspirants ahead of the 2027 elections.
Adeola’s move places him among early contenders positioning for the Ogun governorship, as political activities intensify in line with the timetable released by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
According to INEC, presidential and National Assembly elections are scheduled for January 16, 2027, while governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections will be held on February 6, 2027.
The electoral body also fixed the window for party primaries and resolution of disputes between April 23 and May 30, 2026, with campaigns for the presidential and National Assembly elections set to begin on August 19, 2026. Governorship and state assembly campaigns are expected to commence on September 9, 2026.
Adeola’s early entry is expected to shape political calculations within Ogun State, as stakeholders begin to align ahead of the APC primaries.
