Peter Obi has no path to victory in 2027, says APGA Chairman
The National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Sly Ezeokenwa, has declared that Peter Obi has no pathway to victory in the 2027 presidential election, urging people in the South-East to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid.
Ezeokenwa made the statement during an interview on Arise Television’s The Morning Show on Wednesday, arguing that aligning with Tinubu would serve the strategic interests of the Igbo people.
He said APGA would focus on persuading people in the region to support Tinubu rather than making projections about the number of votes Anambra State could deliver to the president.
“For me, it’s not about bandying about figures. It is about presenting our people with the fact, the truth, the bitter truth, as it were, that in this election — for me, I can say that as painful as it is — there is no pathway for the victory of our so-called brother (Peter Obi) in this election,” Ezeokenwa said.
The APGA chairman maintained that supporting Tinubu was the party’s preferred strategic option ahead of the election, adding that its members would work to convince voters in the South-East to back the president.
“It is better in our strategic interest as Ndigbo for us to align with the aspiration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu currently. That is what APGA stands for. That is where APGA stands, and we are going to do everything possible to convince our people why they need to vote for the candidacy,” he said.
Ezeokenwa’s remarks come amid political manoeuvring ahead of the 2027 general election, with Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo named as the coordinator for the state in Tinubu’s presidential campaign council.
Soludo, an APGA member, is among the opposition figures whose reported roles in the campaign have drawn attention to the party’s position on the presidential contest.
Obi, a former Anambra State governor, contested the 2023 presidential election under the Labour Party. He is now identified in the report as seeking the presidency in 2027 on the platform of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
Ezeokenwa’s comments underscore APGA’s stated position on the forthcoming election, while the contest for support in the South-East is expected to remain an important feature of political alignments ahead of 2027.
