The Ondo State Police Command has begun an investigation after a woman was found dead in a hotel room in Ore, Odigbo Local Government Area.

The woman, whose identity is still unknown, was discovered on Wednesday inside a hotel located along the Ore–Okitipupa Road.

According to reports, the man who checked into the room with her earlier in the day fled the hotel before the body was found.

A hotel worker, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the matter, said the pair arrived together, but staff later met the woman unresponsive when they went to check the room.

Police officers have since visited the scene, and investigations are ongoing to uncover what happened and track down the man who escaped.

“The two were seen together earlier in the day, but when a worker of the hotel got to the room, the lady was seen lifeless on the bed, and the man could not be found.

“It was the person who drew the attention of other hotel staff to the scene. Immediately, the matter was reported at the police station in Ore,” the source said.

According to the hotel worker, there were no visible injuries or signs of struggle in the room.

Confirming the incident to our correspondent on Thursday, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, said operatives had begun efforts to track down the fleeing suspect.

“Yes, the incident happened, and we have begun an investigation, and efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspect,” the PPRO said.

The body of the deceased has been deposited at a hospital morgue in the community.
