‘Repentant’ bandits kill driver, abduct nine others in fresh Kaduna attacks
Fresh attacks by suspected “repentant” bandits have left one person dead and nine others abducted in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State, raising renewed concerns over security along the troubled Kaduna–Birnin Gwari corridor.
The deceased, identified as Mallam Ibrahim Adamu, a commercial driver and grandson of a District Head in the Birnin Gwari Emirate, was reportedly shot dead when gunmen opened fire on his vehicle at Kwanan Giginya along the Kaduna–Birnin Gwari highway.
According to local sources, the attackers killed Ibrahim on the spot before abducting about five passengers travelling in the vehicle and escaping into the surrounding bush.
In a separate incident, four farmers were kidnapped while working on their farms in the Kurgi area of Birnin Gwari Local Government Area.
Residents said the victims were carrying out their normal farming activities when armed men invaded the area and whisked them away to an undisclosed location.
The twin attacks have heightened fears among residents, who say insecurity continues to persist despite reports of peace agreements and reconciliation efforts involving armed groups operating in the area.
Community members lamented that the Kaduna–Birnin Gwari axis remains vulnerable to attacks, with recurring incidents of killings, kidnappings, robbery and extortion disrupting daily life, farming activities and commercial transportation.
Locals further alleged that armed groups routinely seize motorcycles, mobile phones, cash and other valuables from travellers and farmers, while many incidents often go unreported.
Residents have called on security agencies to intensify patrols along the Kaduna–Birnin Gwari highway and strengthen security presence in rural communities to prevent further attacks and protect lives and property.
