Rivers Assembly begins screening of Fubara’s Commissioner Nominees

Members of the Rivers State House of Assembly began screening nine commissioner nominees sent by Governor Siminalayi Fubara on Monday.

The nominees, escorted into the House at about 10 a.m., are Datonye Alasia, Tonye Bellgam, Temple Nwofor, Peters Nwagor, Mrs. Charity Deemua, Tamuno Williams, Lekue Kenneth, Otonye TKD Amachree, and Amairigha Hart.

A video of the screening, televised on Arise TV and monitored by Very Nigerian showed each nominee taking the podium, introducing themselves, and answering questions from lawmakers.

Governor Fubara submitted the list to the House on March 5, 2026, following his dissolution of the State Executive Council.

The Assembly, through a notice signed by Clerk Dr. Emeka Amadi dated March 3, 2026, had earlier directed the nominees to submit 40 copies of their curricula vitae, credential photocopies, and tax compliance evidence in preparation for the screening and confirmation process.

This development follows the restoration of democratic governance in Rivers State after President Bola Tinubu lifted the six-month state of emergency on September 17, 2025.

The emergency rule, imposed on March 18, 2025, had suspended Fubara, his deputy, and the House of Assembly amid a prolonged political crisis stemming from disagreements between Fubara and his predecessor and Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, over control of the state’s political structure.
