Shock in Gombe as Goje loses APC Senate ticket to Inuwa-backed aspirant
Senator Muhammad Danjuma Goje has lost the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial ticket for Gombe Central Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In the direct primary election conducted on Saturday across Akko and Yamaltu/Deba local government areas, DCP Mohammed Ahmed (retd.) emerged as the party’s candidate after a decisive victory.
The Returning Officer of the election, Dr Habu Dahiru, announced that Ahmed polled 42,785 votes, while Senator Goje secured 10,425 votes.
Ahmed, who had earlier been adopted as the consensus candidate of the party, was formally declared winner of the senatorial primary.
Senator Goje, a former governor of Gombe State and long-serving lawmaker who has represented the district since 2011, was seeking a fifth term in the Senate.
The outcome marks a significant political shift in Gombe Central, altering the long-standing dominance of Goje in the district’s political structure.
Speaking after his victory, Ahmed described the process as peaceful and well-participated, noting that it reflected strong public demand for political change in the district.
He said supporters were enthusiastic about what they described as a new direction for representation at the National Assembly.
Ahmed added that his ambition was driven by the desire of constituents for stronger leadership and broader inclusion, rather than personal political interest.
Meanwhile, efforts to reach Senator Goje for reaction were unsuccessful, as his aide declined to comment, saying he would first seek clearance from the senator.
