Students frustrated as technical glitch disrupt 2026 UTME mock exams

Many candidates scheduled to sit for the 2026 mock Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) were stranded on Saturday after a technical glitch disrupted the exercise across the country.

Organised by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), the exam failed to start for several hours, leaving students and parents frustrated at designated computer-based test (CBT) centres.

Reports indicated that some candidates arrived as early as 6 a.m., but the examination only began around 1:30 p.m., causing long delays and anxiety among test-takers.

The incident comes shortly after JAMB warned that candidates who fail to attend the exam after expressing interest would face sanctions, noting that absentees deny other students the opportunity to participate.

The incident has sparked widespread concern, outbursts, and backlash among Nigerians, particularly on social media.

Folosele Leye, an X user, said the CBT centre used during the mock exam of his daughter had poor network connectivity.

“Living Stone CBT Centre, Akobo, Ibadan, where my daughter was posted for her UTME mock exam. The network and computer systems were very poor, making it difficult for students to take their exams in both batches,” Leye wrote.

Chiboi, another social media user, said the situation is frustrating, said the technical failures and poor coordination heightens stress levels for candidates.
