Bird strike grounds United Nigeria airlines flight, disrupts operations
United Nigeria Airlines has warned passengers and the general public of possible flight disruptions after one of its aircraft suffered a bird strike on Sunday.
The airline made this known in a statement, explaining that the incident involved its Airbus A320 operating Flight UN0509 from Asaba International Airport to Murtala Muhammed International Airport, which was scheduled to depart at 12:00 p.m.
According to the statement, the bird strike affected one of the aircraft’s engines, forcing the airline to adjust its operations.
“Due to a bird strike on one of the engines of its operating Airbus A320 aircraft during Flight UN0509, some flights across our network will not operate as scheduled,” the airline said.
The airline did not mmediately provide details on the extent of the disruption but advised passengers to stay updated on their flight status.
In line with safety protocols, the affected aircraft has been withdrawn for a full inspection before returning to service.
“In adherence to our strict and uncompromising safety standards, the affected aircraft has been withdrawn from service for comprehensive inspection before returning to operations,” the statement added.

The airline also apologised to passengers for the inconvenience, assuring them of support during the disruption.
“We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this unforeseen development may cause to your travel plans and kindly appeal for the understanding and patience of our valued passengers and the general public,” it said.
Very Nigerian reported that United Nigeria Airlines aircraft has recorded the fourth in the past month, highlighting a growing challenge for operators in the country.
The most recent incident occurred at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport when an Airbus A320 on Flight UN0519 from Abuja to Lagos encountered birds during takeoff.
United Nigeria Airlines reaffirmed its commitment to upholding the highest safety standards and minimising disruptions to passengers.
“Our team is working diligently to minimise disruptions and provide support to all affected travellers,” the statement concluded.
