Tension as bandits kidnap six travellers in Kwara

Six travellers have been abducted by armed bandits along the Shagba-Babanla road under the Igbaja Division in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State.

Very Nigerian reports that the attack happened around 7:15pm on Sunday as the victims were travelling from Oke-Ode to Babanla.

Security sources said the gunmen intercepted the travellers on the road and whisked them away to an unknown destination.

Among those kidnapped are Wasiu Wahabi, Gani, Abdulateef Meco and Alhaji Sarafa Raheem, the Chief Imam of Babanla town. The identities of the remaining victims had not been confirmed as of the time of filing this report.

The identities of the other victims were yet to be confirmed at the time of this report, but reports indicated that a Bororo man is believed to be among the victims.

The incident caused panic and tension across the Babanla community, leaving residents in fear.

According to local sources, the attack occurred in the evening when the assailants stormed parts of the community and forcefully took the victims to an unknown destination.

Witnesses said the gunmen arrived suddenly and operated for several minutes before fleeing the scene with their captives.

Community members have expressed deep concern over the growing security challenges in the area, calling on security agencies to act swiftly to secure the safe release of the victims and restore peace.

As of the time of filing this report, authorities have yet to release an official statement regarding the incident, while efforts are reportedly underway to track down the perpetrators.

Residents have been urged to remain calm and vigilant.
