Police rescue five abducted women, children in Zamfara
The Zamfara State Police Command has rescued five women and children who were abducted by suspected bandits along the Dansadau–Gusau highway.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Yazid Abubakar, said operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit were on routine patrol when they came across motorists and commuters who had been blocked on the road by armed bandits.
According to him, the police officers immediately confronted the attackers, leading to a gun duel. The bandits were forced to flee into the bush, abandoning their captives.
DSP Abubakar confirmed that the rescued victims were taken to safety and are currently receiving care, while efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects.
The rescued individuals were taken to Gusau, where they received medical attention before being reunited with their families.
Zamfara Police Commissioner Ibrahim Balarabe Maikaba reassured the public of the command’s commitment to protecting lives and urged citizens to provide timely information to aid security efforts.
The rescue follows recent security operations in the state, including airstrikes by the Nigerian Air Force on bandit hideouts in Tsafe Local Government Area, aimed at dismantling camps linked to IED production and attacks on communities along the Dan Sadau–Magami axis.
