Tragedy as two-storey building collapses in Kano, traps four
Four people have been trapped on Saturday after a two-storey building under construction collapsed along Sultan Road in Kano metropolis.
The incident occurred at about 9:00 a.m., according to eyewitnesses and workers at the construction site.
As of the time of filing this report, three victims had been rescued from the rubble, while emergency responders continued rescue operations to reach a fourth person believed to be trapped beneath the debris.
The cause of the building collapse has yet to be determined.
Eyewitnesses said workers noticed signs of structural instability while working on the upper floor and immediately evacuated the building. Moments later, the structure collapsed.
Those trapped included a security guard and a commercial tricycle (Keke Napep) rider.
One of the workers, Shu’aibu Yaro, said the supervising engineer had detected signs of structural failure and directed workers to vacate the building before it gave way.
Yaro said the three rescued victims, including the security guard and one of his friends, were taken to Sir Muhammadu Sanusi Specialist Hospital in Kano for treatment after sustaining injuries.
Rescue officials were still at the scene at press time, continuing efforts to locate and rescue the remaining victim.
