No fewer than 10 people have been rescued alive on Thursday after a two-storey building collapsed at Alakija Bus Stop in Satellite Town along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway.

The incident was confirmed by the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service in a statement issued by its Director, Mrs. Margaret Adeseye.

According to Adeseye, the agency received a distress call at about 11:37 a.m. and swiftly mobilised emergency responders from the Ijegun-Egba Fire Station to the scene on Old Ojo Road, near Alakija Bus Stop.

Rescue operations were immediately launched, with emergency officials working to ensure the safety of those trapped in the rubble. At least 10 people were pulled out alive as efforts continued at the site.

She said the rescue team arrived at about 11:49 a.m. and commenced search and rescue operations.

According to her, the collapsed structure was an occupied residential building housing multiple residents.

“Ten persons have been rescued alive with varying degrees of injuries and have been handed over to medical personnel for necessary treatment,” Adeseye said.

She said rescue operations were still ongoing to ascertain whether more victims remained trapped beneath the rubble.

Adeseye said personnel from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Federal Fire Service, Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Navy, Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps and the Nigerian Red Cross Society were participating in the operation.

She added that the cause of the collapse had yet to be determined, while investigations were ongoing.

The fire service director assured residents that further updates would be provided as rescue efforts progressed and urged members of the public to allow emergency responders unhindered access to the site. (NAN)
