Tragic stampede at Defence Minister’s home kills one, injures six others
A tragic stampede at the residence of the Minister of Defence, Alhaji Bello Matawalle, in Gusau, Zamfara State, has claimed one life and left six others injured.
The incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. on Thursday when a large crowd trooped to the minister’s home to welcome him. According to security sources, the gathering quickly became uncontrollable, resulting in a stampede.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama, in an update posted on his X handle, said the situation escalated as more people pushed towards the entrance.
One of the victims, 23-year-old Khalifa Uzairu, was rushed to Farida General Hospital but was confirmed dead on arrival. The six injured persons are currently receiving treatment.
Others taken to the hospital were Ayuba Sani, Muhammadu Adams, Aliyu Aminu, Shaaban Hamisu, and Inusa Musa Shehu.
Officials said the remaining injured victims are receiving treatment and are in stable condition.
Security personnel have been deployed to restore order, and investigations are underway to find out what caused the stampede and who may be responsible.
Authorities urged the public to exercise caution and cooperate with security measures to avoid similar incidents during official events.
