Expect better security soon – COAS, Shaibu tell Nigerians
Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Waidi Shaibu, has assured Nigerians that the country will experience improved security in the coming weeks.
Speaking to journalists on Tuesday after briefing President Bola Tinubu at the State House in Abuja, the Army Chief said his assessment of ongoing security operations, particularly after a recent visit to the Northeast, showed significant progress.
When asked what Nigerians should expect, Shaibu replied confidently, “They should look out for improved security across the country.”
He explained that his briefing to the President focused on the outcome of his operational tour of the Northeast theatre and a review of the overall security situation nationwide.
“I came to brief him on the outcome of my visit to the Northeast region and then look at other security situations across the country, which was satisfactory within this period,” he said.
According to him, the general security situation has remained “satisfactory,” reflecting better coordination among security agencies and sustained pressure on criminal groups.
Although he did not disclose specific operational plans, his assurance comes as joint military operations intensify across the country, targeting insurgents, bandits, and other violent groups.
The Army Chief’s comments follow recent Nigerian Air Force operations that reportedly neutralized hundreds of terrorists in Borno, Katsina, and Kwara states during weekend raids on their hideouts.
