Video: My response would be bolder if it were Sen. Natasha that accused me of chasing her — Umahi

Minister of Works, David Umahi, has denied allegations of indebtedness and harassment circulating on social media, insisting that he owes no one and has maintained a clean record throughout his years in public office.

Responding to critics over claims that he refused to pay a woman identified as Tracy Ohiri, Umahi said the allegations were baseless and driven by social media speculation.

“I owe nobody. I have served as deputy governor and governor, and no one has ever accused me of harassment. What I see on social media only makes me stronger,” he said.

The former Ebonyi State governor dismissed claims that he had pursued any woman over a long period, describing such allegations as unfounded.

“If it were Senator Natasha Akpoti who claimed I was chasing her, my response would be bolder, not just anyone accusing this handsome man of pursuing her for 12 years. This is all social media talk,” he added.

Umahi further urged the public to focus on more pressing global issues, including tensions in the Middle East.

“I think we should shift our attention to the war in Iran and allow me to rest,” he said.

The controversy followed an earlier confrontation between activist Omoyele Sowore and the minister over the reported arrest of a woman who alleged that Umahi owed her about N250 million.

The woman’s lawyer also alleged that the minister owed money to more than 20 women, claiming the debts arose from failed personal relationships, allegations Umahi has strongly denied.
