Why C-130 made emergency landing in Burkina Faso – NAF gives detailed explanation
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has clarified the circumstances surrounding the diversion of its C-130 transport aircraft on a ferry mission to Portugal on 8 December 2025, stating that the crew carried out a precautionary landing in Burkina Faso purely for safety reasons.
According to the Air Force, the aircraft had departed Lagos when the crew detected a technical issue mid-flight.
In line with international aviation standards, they diverted to the closest airfield, which was in Bobo-Dioulasso, Burkina Faso.
NAF confirmed that its personnel disembarked safely and were warmly received by Burkinabe authorities.
The Force added that arrangements are in progress to continue the journey as planned.
It also reaffirmed its commitment to adhering strictly to operational guidelines, maintaining high safety standards, and protecting its personnel while carrying out its constitutional duties.
The clarification was issued by Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, Director of Public Relations and Information, Nigerian Air Force Headquarters, on 9 December 2025.
