Yahaya Bello begs Nigerians to give Tinubu a second chance, says he took difficult decisions to build Nigeria’s future

Former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, has called on Nigerians to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s bid for a second term in office, arguing that the country needs continuity and stable leadership to consolidate ongoing reforms.

Bello said Tinubu inherited significant economic and security challenges when he assumed office but had demonstrated the courage to take difficult decisions aimed at repositioning the country for long-term growth.

According to the former governor, the challenges confronting Nigeria were not created overnight and could not be resolved immediately.

He therefore warned that abandoning major reforms midway could undermine efforts already being made to strengthen the economy and improve national security.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu deserves the support of Nigerians because he has demonstrated the courage to take responsibility at a difficult period in our national history,” Bello said.

He said the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda provided an opportunity to build a more productive economy, strengthen institutions and create better opportunities for young Nigerians.

Bello stressed that sustainable development required consistency in government policies, arguing that nation-building was a long-term process that required patience and continuity.

“We must learn to look beyond immediate political considerations. Nation-building is not a one-day assignment. Important reforms require patience, consistency and the opportunity for those entrusted with leadership to complete the work they have started,” he said.

The former governor also praised Tinubu’s political experience and contribution to Nigeria’s democratic development, describing him as a leader with the resilience and experience required to navigate difficult periods.

Bello further commended the Federal Government’s efforts to tackle insecurity, particularly through intelligence-led operations and collaboration between federal and state authorities.

While acknowledging that Nigerians continue to face serious challenges, he urged citizens to remain hopeful about the country’s future and called on political leaders to put national interest above personal and partisan considerations.

According to Bello, the 2027 election should be viewed against the backdrop of the need for stability, policy continuity and consolidation of ongoing reforms.

“President Tinubu should be allowed to continue the work he has begun. Nigeria needs stability, consistency and leadership that is prepared to take difficult decisions in the interest of future generations,” he said.

Bello urged Nigerians across ethnic, religious and political divides to support Tinubu’s re-election, maintaining that a second term would give the administration more time to consolidate its economic reforms, security measures and development agenda.

His latest position is consistent with his previous public endorsements of Tinubu’s 2027 presidential bid.
