2027: Peter Obi holds meeting with EU Ambassadors in Abuja
The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has met with ambassadors of European Union (EU) member countries in Abuja as part of efforts to engage the international community ahead of the 2027 general elections.
During the meeting, Obi appealed to the international community to support Nigeria’s democracy and promote a credible electoral process.
He disclosed the engagement in a post on his X handle on Friday, stating that the meeting took place on Thursday.
According to Obi, the meeting came a day after his engagement with the British High Commissioner.
According to him, discussions centred on the rising cost of living, the welfare of Nigerians, the state of governance and the forthcoming elections.
Obi said he urged the international community to stand with Nigerians in defending their democratic rights, particularly their freedom to elect leaders of their choice in a peaceful and fair environment.
He stressed that the essence of democracy was the right of citizens to freely make their choices and determine who governs them.
He wrote: “I reiterated my appeal to the international community to support the democratic right of Nigerians to freely and fairly choose their leaders in a peaceful environment.
“The international community should stand with the Nigerian people in defending this fundamental right.
“The very essence of democracy is respect for the right of citizens to freely make their choices and determine who governs them.”
The former Anambra State governor thanked the European Union Commission for the invitation and opportunity to engage with the ambassadors.
