NPFL Match Day 12: Draws, upsets, off-feld controversies steal the spotlight

Match Day 12 of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) delivered competitive football, surprising results, and off-field drama that has kept fans on edge.

Yesterday, Katsina United and Barau FC played out a 1-1 draw in a match overshadowed by a pitch invasion.

Frustrated fans stormed the field, forcing a temporary halt as security worked to restore order.

The incident has once again raised concerns about crowd control and safety in the NPFL.

Nasarawa United, still atop the table, shared points in a 1-1 draw with Kwara United. Despite taking the lead, the Solid Miners were pegged back but maintained their position thanks to earlier strong performances.

Wikki Tourist continued their good form with a narrow 1-0 win over Niger Tornadoes.

Earlier results from the weekend included Abia Warriors and Enyimba playing to a 0-0 draw, Kano Pillars being held 0-0 by Bayelsa United (a result compounded by their ongoing points deduction), Rangers defeating Shooting Stars 1-0, and Ikorodu City shocking Warri Wolves 2-0 away from home.

The week is not yet complete, as three fixtures remain:

Kano Khalifat FC vs Rivers United

Remo Stars vs El-Kanemi Warriors

Plateau United vs Bendel United

These matches will be crucial in shaping the league table, with teams vying for continental qualification spots and fighting to avoid relegation.

As the season intensifies, Nasarawa United retains a slim lead, but challengers like Rangers, Wikki Tourist, and Ikorodu City are keeping the title race open.

Meanwhile, off-field issues, including Kano Pillars’ point deduction and the Barau FC pitch invasion, show that NPFL drama is just as fierce off the pitch as it is on it.
