Chinda appears before APC screening panel after alleged defection
The Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Kingsley Chinda, has reportedly appeared before the governorship screening committee of the ruling All Progressives Congress ahead of its primaries.
Chinda, who was elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, is said to have quietly defected to the APC days before the screening exercise, according to party insiders.
Sources also claim the lawmaker is among political associates of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, who purchased nomination forms to contest in the party’s governorship race.
Another reported aspirant linked to the same political circle is Dax Kelly, who also obtained the APC forms.
The development comes as other notable figures, including Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and Tonye Cole, are also said to have purchased nomination forms ahead of the APC governorship primaries.
While there has been no official confirmation from Chinda or the APC on his defection, the development signals intensified political realignments ahead of the 2027 election cycle, particularly in Rivers State politics.
Further details are expected as the screening process continues.
