2027: Wike, Chinda, Rivers coalition stakeholders hold strategic meeting in Spain
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and some key members of the Rainbow Coalition in Rivers State have reportedly met in Spain to discuss strategies ahead of the 2027 general elections.
However, Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, who recently aligned himself with the coalition, was reportedly absent from the meeting.
Those said to have attended the strategic meeting include Chief Marcus Nle Ejii, Executive Director, Projects and Infrastructural Development, South South Development Commission (SSDC); Senator Mao Ohabunwa, Chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt; and Kingsley Ogundu Chinda, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in the state.
The meeting is believed to be part of efforts by key political actors in Rivers State to strengthen their plans and alliances ahead of the 2027 elections.
Although the purpose of the meeting was not made public, it may not be unconnected to the January and February 2027 general elections.
Wike had recently declared Chinda, a member of the House of Representatives, as his preferred candidate to succeed Fubara.
According to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), campaign for the February 6, 2027 gubernatorial elections kicked off on Tuesday, September 8.
