Oshiomhole clinches Edo APC senatorial ticket unopposed
Former Edo State Governor and serving senator, Adams Oshiomhole, and his counterpart Senator Joe Ikpea have secured the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial tickets for Edo North and Edo Central respectively, after emerging unopposed in their respective primaries.
Both lawmakers were returned without opposition, effectively sailing through the party’s selection process without a single vote cast against them.
In Edo South, however, the contest was competitive as Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama emerged winner of the APC senatorial primary election.
Ogbeide-Ihama polled 27,154 votes across the seven local government areas in Edo South, while Senator Neda Imasuen scored 13,580 votes and Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu secured 6,785 votes.
The result was announced by the Chairman of the APC National Assembly Primary Election Committee, Muhammed Ajana, at Urokpota Hall in Benin.
According to him, the votes reflected outcomes from ward-level elections conducted across the 77 wards in the senatorial district.
However, the outcome has been contested by some stakeholders, with claims of parallel declarations emerging from within the party.
Reports indicated that Ize-Iyamu was also declared winner by a separate returning officer, sparking confusion over the authentic result of the exercise.
Senator Imasuen rejected the process, describing it as flawed and alleging manipulation in favour of a preferred candidate.
He claimed he was denied opportunity to vote in his ward and accused party leaders of pre-determining the outcome of the primary.
Imasuen further alleged that some ward officials had informed him ahead of the exercise that Ogbeide-Ihama had already been endorsed by the party leadership.
The senator described the exercise as unfair and insisted that the process did not reflect the true will of party members.
The developments have left the Edo APC senatorial primaries marked by both decisive victories and internal disputes across the three senatorial districts.
